The Flood: Noah’s Faithfulness. Gen. 7:1-24

16 04 2008
The Character of the Faithful.
The faithful plan for Worship. 2-4
  • Noah gathered 7 pairs of clean animals for sacrifice later.
  • Gen. 8:20-21 Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done.
  • Worship takes effort.  The more effort we put into it the more meaningful it is to us.

The faithful obey the word of God. 5, 9, 16,

  • They don’t just know what God says, they do what God says.
  • They don’t just consider what God says.
  • Sometimes when I am tempted it helps me to think about other people. If other people did with their sins like I am doing with my sins, what would I say to them.

The faithful remember the mighty acts of God. 6, 11

  • Noah remembers the exact day of devastation.
  • Noah remembers how long it lasted.
  • They remember the day of salvation.
  • The few who escaped 9-11 remember it far better.

One Faithful Person Makes a Difference.
The Difference is the Salvation of others. 1

  • The Faithfulness of one leads to the salvation of others. It was true with my mom and dad.
  • The Faithfulness of a father generally leads to the saving of the whole family.
  • We are not only to see people saved, but to disciple them. Matt. 28

Noah’s life was discipleship to his family.

  • A disciple never exceeds his teacher. A half hearted disciple will only produce a half hearted disciple of Jesus. A half hearted disciple will never produce a whole hearted disciple.

The Difference is made during the difficult times.

  • God is not looking for people to love him only when things are good.
  • God is looking for people who will love him and serve him even when everybody else isn’t or when a flood comes.

The Faithful are Blessed.

The Blessing is from the Lord. 1, 16

  • Gen. 9:1 And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.

Blessings come after obedience. 1

  • If you want to avoid the blessing of God, then just don’t listen to him.
  • The reason Noah found favor with God was because God SAW his righteousness. If you want to miss the ark of Salvation, just do SOME of what God has commanded you to do not all.
  • Blessings generally never come when we do not take God seriously.
  • Blessing don’t come when our jobs come before obeying God. Blessing don’t come when our status comes before God.
  • Blessing don’t come when our God can not see our righteousness.
  • Righteousness is seen in actions. God could see that Noah obeyed.

Sermon Summary 11-4-07

5 11 2007

Three Keys to Prayer - 2 Chron. 7:14

1. The keys are for God’s people

  • God does not hear those who are not His.

  • Prov. 15:8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is acceptable to him.

  • Prov. 28:9 If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.

  • Isa. 1:15 When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood.

2. Three keys to prayer.

  • The key of humility.

    •  It is a lack of humility not to pray.
    • We don’t pray when we think we can handle it ourselves.

    • It is a lack of humility not to apologize, ask forgiveness or say your sorry.

    • Pride prevents and perverts prayer.

    • Humility alone does not get to effective prayer.

  • The key of putting God first.

    • If the glory of God is not the motivation of our prayer then our prayers are as useless as car with no gas, a light bulb with no electricity. It we pray as if God were a Genni or Santa Claus, our prayers will amount to nothing but a pile of crap.

    • Moses (Ex. 32:12), David (1 Sam. 17:46-47), and Daniel (9:19) all prayed God-centered prayers.  They prayed for God’s own sake that he would answer their prayers.

    • Humility and putting God first must be followed by the third key.

  • The key of turning from evil.

    • Humility that will not turn from sin is a false humility.

    • A claim to be putting God first without turning from the things that God detests is not truly putting God first.

    • Turn from your wickedness.

3. The keys unlock the blessing of God.

  • The blessing of answered prayer

  • The blessing of forgiveness

  • The blessing of good.

I encourage us and even pressure us because…

  1. the consequences are too great

  2. the blessing are too wonderful
