Perseverance of the Saints – Phil. 1:6
Our constitution states…
Those whom God hath accepted in the Beloved, and sanctified by His Spirit, will never totally nor finally fall away from the state of grace, but shall certainly persevere to the end; and though they may fall, through neglect and temptation, into sin, whereby they grieve the Spirit, impair their graces and comforts, bring reproach on the Church, and temporal judgments on themselves, yet they shall be renewed again unto repentance, and be kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation.
God always finishes what He starts.
Romans 8:28-32, John 10:26-30, Jeremiah 32:40
We must persevere if we are to be saved.
1 Corinthians 15:1-2, Colossians 1:21-23, Mark 13:13
We must make sure we are saved
2 Peter 1:10, 2 Timothy 4:7-8, Jude 1:24-25
To not believe this…
-
Calls into question God’s faithfulness – 1 Thess. 5:23-24
-
Calls into question Jesus’ ability to keep his sheep
-
Makes Jesus an outright liar. – John 6:37; 10:28-29
-
Makes the gospel’s power limited.
-
If the Gospel of Jesus Christ cannot keep someone saved then, the Gospel’s power is weak.
